Let me Introduce you to Jessica ROberts

It is no secret that I love my career, Yes I have had to deal with pain and obstacles, My life is not perfect but I simply adore it. The most rewarding part of my job is getting to meet other women that I feel connected to immediately. It was definitely like this when I met Jess. I know we don’t see each other often but she is incredible and supportive and one of the loveliest ladies I have ever met. She is a gorgeous mom who is completely transparent, real and raw about her journey on her blog and social media platforms. I may not be the most interactive on social media but I find myself always learning something when I read Jess’s page. Here is a little feature that I have been waiting to share on this spectacular human. I know you are going to love this!


1. Introduce yourself in one sentence?

I’m Jess Roberts an exercise and champagne obsessed, wife and mother of two.


2. In your opinion what was your claim to fame?

One hundred percent my son.


3. What do you think is the single thing that is most wrong with the world right now?

Intolerance and un-education.


4. Childhood Celebrity Crush?

Bobby Skinstad


5. The place you love most in the world?

My bed. Jokes aside, the ocean soothes my soul.


6. What is your motto in life?

Everyone is fighting some kind of battle, always, always, always be kind.


7. How do you inspire people?

I would hope that I inspire people by showing them how raising a child with special needs can be so beautiful. I hope that I inspire them with my honesty.


8. Do you sing in the shower?

No – I was kicked out of the choir in pre-primary for a reason.


9. If yes, what would you regard your number 1 hit cover single to be?

The sounds of silence.


10.Dogs or Cats?

Both. I adore all living things, from ants right up to the big five.  

11.Favourite food?

Champagne is part of the food groups right?


12.Do you believe in ghosts?

No

13. What is your job title?

My job title has changed substantially in the last year. It used to be merchandise planner for a large retail company, now it is online shop owner/curator, blogger and social media consultant.


14.What inspired you to choose this career path?

My children have inspired my career path. I have a passion in my soul for Luke and his cause. Education and awareness around Down Syndrome has become my priority. My love for local brands and South African talent has driven me to showcase local product on our Learning from Luke Shop.

15.Career highlight to date?

My career highlight in my retail position was forging the relationships that I did, my career highlight in my new position is growing our followers organically to the number that we have.


16. Who is the most famous person you have met?

Gosh this is a tough one – probably my son Luke!

17.Your advice to your younger self?

Life will not go according to your perceived plans, and that’s ok.

18.If you could have dinner with absolutely anyone {dead or alive), who would it be and why?

Desmond Tutu for his wisdom and humour, Helen Keller for her knowledge of championing for those with disabilities and both of my grandfathers, I didn’t ask them enough questions about their lives.


19. A memory from your life that makes you giggle?

I’m a really, really bad flyer (which is ironic as I am married to a pilot). On a flight to London I took a tranquiliser, it was like a scene out of the movie Bridesmaids!


20. Who inspires you?

Every mother who has a child with special needs. Those women have looked fear in the eye and overcome it, they are continually fighting for their children and they are often brave beyond their years as a result. Those women inspire me daily.


21.If you won 100 million dollars today, what would you do?

Book an all-inclusive tropical holiday for a good break.

Donate to charities close to my heart and my son’s cause.

Pay for all Luke’s therapies upfront for the duration of his life.
